I first met Simon as we all entered the adult world of University at Newcastle. On the same course, Simon was always a help to me in understanding some of the key concepts. From the 2nd year we became flatmates for 3 years. As a flat we were very close, going out together, criticising each others food choices, sharing lecture notes and helping each other navigate the various challenges we faced over the years. Simon's soldering iron was a crucial tool in our flat, whether doing actual project work, or modifying reclaimed speakers for parties. I will always appreciate the help Simon was always willing to give with my studies (he was very very clever after all) Thoughts are with Caroline and family.
